Fungus garden in an ant colony
  1. If you have ants, DO NOT spray them with bug spray... that's a losing battle because there's millions more where those came from.  If you need our services, live ants will be necessary in order to follow the trail to find the colonies and for the ants to carry the bait back.
  2. Keep your counters, sinks, floors and all surfaces clean, and store all food in airtight containers.
  3. Fix moisture problems, roof leaks, and plumbing leaks.
  4. Seal cracks and openings around the foundation, especially where utility pipes and wires enter from the outside.
  5. Cut back shrubs, tree limbs or branches that could serve as a bridge to your structure.
  6. Remove stumps, wood piles, and wooden objects near the home that might house colonies.
  7. Stack firewood away from the house, elevated off the ground if possible.
  8. If you have a carpenter ant colony, the damaged wood should be removed and replaced.
  9. Ants will live in the dead wood of standing trees. They do not kill trees. Unless the tree is a hazard because of structural defects, it is not necessary to remove it simply because it is colonized by ants. Colonies in standing dead trees can often be treated.
  10. Sometimes home remedies can help such as:
  • Spray some powdered chalk in the areas that are the entry points of ants.
  • Squeeze lemon, orange or mandarina juice, or place peels, where you see ants.  You can also wash your floors with water that has citrus juice added to it.
  • Ants are pretty fond of sugar but they hate salt and pepper. Sprinkle table salt or cayenne or black pepper at the areas from where ants enter your house.
  • Ants can't bear the smell of white vinegar. Prepare a solution of equal amounts of water and white vinegar. Add a few drops of essential oil and shake well. Store this solution and spray it on your windowsills, doorways and other places where you usually see ants. You can also use straight vinegar to clean counters, floors and surfaces.
  • Put tea tree oil, cinnamon or peppermint where you think the ants can enter. Prepare a mixture of 10 drops of tea tree, cinnamon or peppermint essential oil and a cup of water and spray it wherever you find ants.
  • Diatomaceous earth kills ants by absorbing the oils in their skeletons, which dries them out. Since it’s an irritant, avoid breathing in diatomaceous earth or getting it on your skin.
  • Boric acid is a type of poison.  It is very important to keep boric acid away from pets and children and to wear gloves while you’re working with it. Make a solution of 1/2 teaspoon boric acid, 8 teaspoons sugar, and 1 cup of warm water.  Stir until the sugar and boric acid are completely dissolved. Saturate cotton balls and place around your home in areas where you’ve seen ants.  You can also leave the mixture out in containers. After use, wash containers thoroughly or discard.
If you still have problems, email us!
WE WILL NEED LIVE ANTS TO FOLLOW THE TRAILS TO LOCATE/ERADICATE THE COLONIES
